Upton & Kexby Horticultural Society
The society was in existence in the early 1950s. At some time later it was disbanded and then re-formed in 1962 with a committee of Harold Jubbs, Derek Till, John Skelton and Alf Johnson, with Mrs Murial Till in charge of catering. At that time, Harold Jubbs worked for the R.E.M.E Camp and entered their Horticultural Shows. It is thought he was the main instigator to re-starting the Shows here.
Since 1962 there has been a Show every year. When the Village Hall was being rebuilt, it was held, on a smaller scale, in All Saints’ Church and Church Hall.
Up until the last couple of years the Show had always been held on August Bank Holiday Monday. But with falling entries, due to more people taking holidays, the Committee decided to break this tradition and the Show is now held on the second Sunday in September.
There are trophies to be won and we hope there is a class that everyone can enter – vegetables, flowers, baking, handicrafts photographs and classes for children. Please let us know if you would like us to consider other classes or you would like to join the committee.
