Village News

UPTON PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

A member of the public attended and asked questions re broadband and the phone box use.  Chair of meeting J.Allen one Councillor apologies.
The new clerk took her first meeting and handled it very efficiently.
Questions discussed were pig rearing unit, awaiting planning meeting, defibrillator  to be placed at Rose and Crown, Willingham   nurses association had put some money into this, dog  fouling and long grass problem and street lights being turned off.
The next meeting will be on September 13th


FRIENDSHIP CLUB

This ended up being an informal meeting as no speaker was booked.
The members present decided that the cream tea on July 28th would have a
Raffle and bring and buy stalls.
The cream tea would commence at 2p.m. in the Methodist Schoolroom, entrqance of £1.00 for cream strawberry scones and tea.
All very welcome.

Not quite as advertised---- moved by the day's momentous "happenings" and the installation of a second female Prime Minister, Rosie decided to regale us with post-war reminiscences, ending with a rousing singing of "Land of Hope & Glory" accompanied by enthusiastic waving of the Union flag & the flag of St. George !. The evening rounded off with a wonderful selection of delicious cakes, provided by Linda & Julie.

CHARITY NITE

A very good night was held at the Rose & Crown for the Ethan Maull "Up yours to Cancer" Foundation,
with a B.B.Q. games & raffle, organised by Sarah & Simon Hindley, many thank's go to them, as well over £1,000 was raised.

CHRISTMAS MARKET

A meeting was held to discuss arrangements, the date being fixed for Thur. 8th. Dec. @ 6-00pm.
Prior events are a "Race Night" on 23rd. Sept. a "Fashion Show" on 5th. Oct. and a quiz to start on Show date 4th. Sept. winner's to be announced on market night. Please make a note of these dates for your diary.

The meeting was followed by the usual quiz, winners were :- "Whiz Kalifi" & the "Young & Good Looking" £100 was raised for market funds.
This weeks quiz is for the Horticultural Society.

This Sunday, (31st.)
Church, NO service, but group service at Gate Burton @ 10-00am.
Chapel, Service @ 10-30 with Mrs E. Taylor
