Village News: 23 November 2014


The chair of Upton Parish council welcomed the WLDC member, Mrs J Milne, members and police to the November meeting of the council.

All members, but one were present.

The police gave a resume of work done by the police and the area they have to cover. He stressed the importance of reporting crimes and of dialling 101 for help.  He gave advice on speeding through the village, fly tipping and parking.  Only a barn fire had been reported in Upton during the past few weeks. 

The council meeting began with a minutes silence in respect of the day being Nov 11th – remembrance day.

Declarations of interest were given.

The council were congratulated on the memorial on Church Road/High Street . All agreed the ceremony had gone very well.  Thanks were expressed to Sturgate flying club, David of Lincoln City band, the people who had donated, Lincolnshire Co-op and J. Milne from her initiative fund.  Several councillors volunteered to put in steps to the memorial.

The road between lodge Lane and Heaphm Road will be closed on December 15th 2014.  No reply re the phone box.

The fun day follow up were produced. Bloomers were very active!, 360 bulbs had been planted, would like to plant on scrub land on burial ground. Neighbourhood watch meeting to be held on Monday 17th November. Walking group to start with a walk on new years day, transport arrangements are in hand.

Clerk had no reply from M.Sturgess re complaint about a planning refusal.

The precept was set for 15/16 with only a small rise.

The Christmas Market in the Rose and Crown would take place on December 4th
Starting at 6p.m. This would have a silver theme as it is 25 years since the first market.

Next meeting will be on January 13th 2015.


Last week was in aid of the Air Ambulance, £67 was raised, winners were the Oblong Table & Young & good Looking.
This week is for the Village Hall.


The Church are holding this event on Sat & Sun13 -14 Dec.

Also on Sat 13th. Harpist , Thea Butterworth will be giving a festive concert at 7-30
tickets £5-00 inc. refreshments, available from any P.C.C. members.


Don't forget, Thurs. Dec. 4th. 6-00 pm. at the Rose & Crown, plenty of bargains
to be had !!
