OLDE TYME MUSIC HALL.This took place in the village hall, it was a
Trentside Singers production with some help from friends and the famous
WISH team.Jim Elvidge was the compere, he had learnt all the big words
which was met by lots of oohs and aahs from the audience, who looked
splendid in their wonderful outfits.The opening numbers were Going to
make music for you and My Grandfathers Clock.Followed by I'm forever
blowing bubbles,the monologue Albert and the lion and a hilarious
rendition of I do like to be beside the seaside with Dorothy and Jean
dressed up in Victorian bathing costumes.After that came some Gilbert
and Sullivan with the final item of the first half being the can can
danced by Chris, Jane Lesley and Julie.After wine and refreshments a
sketch called The Farmer and the Scarecrow was very warmly received by
the audience, this was followed by Let's all go down the strand and The
Lambeth Walk with Barbara, Dorothy, Rita and Susan all dressed up as
pearly kings and queens. Patrick, Peter and Stuart then did Any Old
Iron and Jenny did a very good impression of Berlington Bertie.The
concert finished with Friends and Neighbours and We'll Meet Again. This
was an excellent evening's entertainment which raised over £400 from
the auction and the raffle which will go to St Barnabas Hospice and
Cancer research. Flowers were presented to the accompanist Elaine,
Margaret and the hard working producer Jenny Fotheringham. On 13th
November the choir will be in concert at All Saints Church for a
service of remembrance.

FRIENDSHIP CLUB The members and guests were entertained by Mr Ian
Loxley with slides and talk on the cloud appreciation society. There
was a BBC show on all kinds of weather, and heatwaves and floods were
explained.A picture of Ian sitting in a cornfield with weatherman Paul
Hudson was also shown.Mrs Doris Jubbs thanked Ian for a very
interesting afternoon. The next meeting will be held at the home of
Steve and Donna Hutchinson on 29th September.

KEEP FIT The keep fit class are looking for new members. The class is
held every monday in the village hall starting at 7-15pm, the cost is
£3-20 per session. The class is suitable for all ages and abilities,

QUIZ Last week's quiz was for the Bellringers. The winners were Gavin's
Girls and The Young and Goodlooking Team. £135 was raised, this week's
quiz is for Macmillan Cancer Care, there is also a coffee morning for
this in the village hall on Friday morning.
