Village News - 14th Aug 2011

QUIZ- Last weeks quiz was for the Art Club, Dave Farrow was the
quizmaster, the winners were Gavins Team, £138 was raised, this weeks
quiz is for the Air Ambulance.
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
An outing to a beautiful garden was organised by Mrs Pauline Chester.
The members and friends visited Overbeck gardens in Scothern, and
what
a treat it was.
After a tour of the flower and vegetable gardens a welcome drink and
biscuits was enjoyed by all.
The show will take place on September 11th in the Village Hall.
Schedules are now out and are at the Post Office in the village hall
and from J.Spencer, Church road, Upton.
WOMENS INSTITUTE.
An outing to the Old Hall was enjoyed by W.I. members and guests.
Sue Allen gave a guided tour of the building and we heard of lots
interesting things about the hall, many  of which members had not
heard
about before.
President, J.Anderson, thanked Sue Allen for a very interesting
evening, also thanking Ann Sharpe for arranging the tour.
CONCERT.
The Trentside singers performed at a sad occasion last Friday, when
they sang at the funeral of a founder member of the choir, Mrs
Janette Hutchinson.
On a happier 'note' the choir will present an Old Tyme Music Hall  on
Saturday 17th September in the Village Hall.
Tickets (£5.00) are obtainable from Mrs Jenny fotheringham and choir
members.
CRICKET CLUB.
Get your tickets soon for the popular annual barbeque in aid of the
cricket club.
The event will be held in the gardens of the Rose and Crown and are
£5.00 each to include a two course meal.
This event will take place on 29th August (bank holiday Monday)
